James Long
James Long was a filibuster who tried to free Texas from Spain. James Long led a force into Texas in 1819. James and his people made it clear that Texas should be an independent republic. James was then elected president of the republic. James then set up a government, and then he went to Galveston Island to ask Jean Laffite for help. While James was gone, Spanish troops attacked his forces. He then went to New Orleans for more troops. They landed in Galveston Bay. James & his troops captured Goliad, but were caught by Spanish troops and were then forced to surrender. James was then taken prisoner and killed in Mexico City.
