Philip Nolan
Philip Nolan was a filibuster who came to the US from Ireland. He made money from selling and capturing wild horses in Texas. The Spaniards thought he was working for the American military commander, General Wilkinson, as a spy. Philip was warned not to come back toTexas, but he completely ignored the warning. In 1800, Philip joined with 27 other men and spent the winter trapping horses. In 1801 their camp was invaded. They forced Philip to surrender, but he would not. They fought Philip Nolan and his men. Philip along with the others that didn't surrender were killed. Peter Bean had not surrendered and survived and gained freedom.
